Welcome to The Accessorist!

Welcome to The Accessorist!

It was a Monday night a couple of weeks ago and I was making an online wish list, justifying a few new sweaters (etc.) to get me through fall and winter, as one does—and my cart was quickly tallying up to $1200. I couldn't believe I needed to spend that much on clothes after shopping somewhat steadily through summer. The cycle felt endless and and I felt exhausted. (When would enough ever be enough?)

I also felt guilty. I've been living with my boyfriend, Chris, since March. We fell easily into a hanging-out-every-day routine after meeting through work, and sharing a one-bedroom apartment has been equally seamless (save for a few minor decor adjustments). We want to buy a house next year—I look so longingly at neighborhoods now whenever driving around the city—and it's not right to let him build a future while I build a wardrobe.

I needed guardrails. A uniform. So, I decided to commit to a minimalist (mostly black) wardrobe of elevated essentials I can mix and match and feel great wearing every day. It might sound extreme and I know it will be hard when I see a powder blue or bright plum whatever I want—clothes are my job, my hobby, my therapy—but I love black. It's classic, flattering and the easiest color to wear head to toe. I'm in love with the simplicity of it.

Rather than chase every trend, I'll spice up my staples with carefully selected accessories—that means buying a velvet hair tie instead of a velvet bomber, pants AND pumps. I'm excited to share my seasonal wardrobe essentials as well as the extras I find and love—so if you find yourself in a similar situation—wanting to cut back but still a little in love with fashion—you can browse a catalog of affordable finds here.

I hope you find some inspiration and connection and some of yourself in The Accessorist—and maybe decide to live the accessorist life with me?! It's going to be fun! Let's get started.
