Setting the Table for Christmas

Setting the Table for Christmas

How was your weekend? I finished my gift shopping so now all that’s left to do is wait for everything to arrive (hopefully in time) and wrap! We also worked on the porch—I was on painting duty—and watched the first Timberwolves pre-season game (Chris is so glad basketball is back!). Our basement is so cozy with the tree, so it’s basically where I’m spending all my time. The hibernation is real. I also made this soup for the second time in a week—it’s so good! A new favorite.

With Christmas around the corner, I’ve been thinking about little ways to make the season special—something that feels more urgent this year since the calendar is empty of happy hours, parties and family baking days. One thing I really want to do is invest in holiday dinnerware. Chris and I didn’t put china on our wedding registry because it didn’t seem worth it for something we might use once a year. We’re just not “china people.” But I love the idea of pulling out festive dinnerware after Thanksgiving and enjoying it through the holidays, even if you’re just having mac and cheese on a snowy Tuesday. Growing up, getting to use my mom’s china on Christmas Eve made the whole evening feel more special, and I want to start recreating that spirit in my own home, all month long.

Below is my inspo! I’m loving the nostalgic Twas the Night Before Christmas collection at Williams-Sonoma, and think it would be fun mixed with the more subtle snowflake pieces. Add tartan table linens (and some fancy flatware) and the holidays at home are looking a lot merrier! (Tip: If you’re not ready to commit to the whole collection, just start with table linens and maybe some festive serveware or Santa cookie plate!)

Yay for the last full week of work before Christmas! Trying to savor it, despite being excited for * actual * Christmas to get here.
